Our condo just had a group event there and the experience was stellar. From the excellent food and service to the ambiance in this beautiful setting, we had a wonderful evening.
We were a group of 4 sharing. Every dish was oversalted. The butter hen was good in spite of the salt. The snap peas were okay. The pickerel was too salty to taste anything else. The Brussel sprouts were undercooked with no char I could see and like a previous comment we too thought there were shrimp in the dish. Very disappointing experience. Will not be returning
5 star for everything. From the menu, to the fabulous service, to the cool, vibe atmosphere. Being a foodie, and always searching for a unique menu, Barrel Heart does not disappoint! The tasting menu on Friday night was next level! If you want a Michelin quality that does not break the bank, do not pass Go, do not collect $200, just head over to one of the best restaurants ever! I look forward to the next Friday night tasting menu.
What a treat! Unique beers, wines and delicious food. They have a lovely patio environment. We enjoyed the spicy butter Cornish hen dish with crispy skin, smoked pickerel and potato salad was something special. Banana pudding desert had the perfect textured and salty sweet combo. Shout out to chef Mitch and Lana. We are lucky to have such creative and quality food in the Hamilton area. Can’t wait to come back to try more as their menu rotates. Congrats on the Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand - well deserved.
I cannot say enough good things about this place. We were visiting from BC and had a great afternoon working though all of the fruited saisons and goses. Every one of them were winners and the bougie potato salad was a perfect accoutrement. Honestly a must visit for any saison/barrel aged beer fan, it's absolutely worth the trip if you find yourself in the GTA.
Staff was friendly and attentive. Drinks were refreshing and tasty. But the food.... the food was insane ! Flavourful and excellently prepared! It's well worth a try, your taste buds will not be disappointed.
UPDATE: Barrel Heart has a great new(er) taproom in downtown Dundas! It's still the same great beer and service, but much more space and a dog-friendly patio! As a creature of habit, I had Cherries aged like grace again - I'll try to branch out the next time. Thanks, Mark! August 31, 2024 C & J ORIGINAL REVIEW: Fantastic experience at Barrel Heart! Met and chatted with the proprietor, Mark, who, with his wife, run the brewery. His passion for and knowledge of brewing is very clear. Indeed, he is part of Niagara College's brewing program faculty. Of course, the hughlight is the beer. Even with the wide proliferation of small craft breweries, the oak barrel aged brews are a rarity. The aging process is more akin to wine making. The back "wall" of the taproom is an imposing stack of oak barrels. Even the bar is fashioned from barrel staves. Between us, we had the raspberry ("The Raspberry Pact") twice, cherry ("Cherries aged like Grace"), and the Oubliette. The Raspberry Pact is amazing, and some came home with us. To be fair, they were all great, especially the Oubliette. I'm already looking forward to a return visit! Thanks, Mark, for the outstanding brews!
