Delicious! I have only eaten there twice so far, but enjoyed both meals greatly. Kind of like a take on cafeteria dining, but with way better food and ambiance. Oh and the brunch menu..? Seriously, you gotta go! Nice airy space, with wooden tables and a 'share and share alike' attitude, create a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. I hafta agree with everyone else, their coffee is excellent too. Oh! And I love their take on, "Need a penny? Take a penny." So be sure to buy a coupla buttons instead of tipping...Way to go 541! I'm so glad you're in my neighborhood.
Does an excellent job at providing meaningful work for its staff who have their own health issues. A great asset to the local community. Tasty fare at fair prices. The coffee is to-die-for delicious! And what a thoughtful way to re-purpose an old building(a former bank) where everyone is treated equally!
Love this place at times!! But sadly the people it attacks generally have issues and have outbursts on both the staff and customers. I was personally harassed right outside the eatery and no one seemed to care.
541 is a community-minded coffee & brunch joint with a compassionate twist: if you need help paying for your meal, you can use some of their "Buttons" as payment. If that work bonus finally kicked in, buy a button for the next person in line. The staff are mostly volunteers, but you'd never know it, because it looks like just any other quaint shop on James St North or Ottawa St. Pay it forward or just sit and relax. Besides, their coffee is a dollar.
Not concerned about the people that have to go to work. No work, no buttons to buy. No work, gonna need buttons for myself. Very inconsistent food and drinks. Cheap cooking methods. Will serve stale home fries, instead of throwing them out. Is what it is. Hit or miss. Love the inside of this place. Outside in great too. Wish there was more places like the inside of this place. Nobody has anything close. Bathrooms are clean enough to use. I went enough times here, but I wont be coming back for the food because of the poor choice to serve garbage as food. I will pass on the coffee, and mochas as well.
