Fabulous experience. Smells amazing in here plus the staff and regulars all create a cozy and friendly environment. The cookies are amazing. Also highly recommended are the ham and cheese scone and cheese croissant.
I've been coming to this sourdough bakery for the past two years. The bread is always fresh, the atmosphere is cozy and the staff are usually very friendly. However, my experience today was a letdown. I encountered a very rude barista who's attitude was negative, unprofessional and off putting. I have never had a bad experience here, but unfortunately Miriam left a sour taste in my mouth (pun intended!). Hopefully, this is just a one-off and the bakery can get back to its usual excellent service.
did I make a trip from Buffalo to Hamilton to try their baked goods? yes — and was it worth the drive? also yes! seriously their croissants and sourdough and cookies and everything they have on display is so so good. I'm sad that they are a bit far from me but also relieved because I would be there quite literally every day spending my money and packing on those carbs
I don't know what the deal was but the minimal customer service would have been appreciated for greetings and making customers feel welcomed. We first came across Dear Grain close to Badiali's Pizza in Toronto and the vibe was totally different and helpful. At least the consistency in food and drink quality is similar? Definitely negatively affected future visits, even if this place is closer.
I went there specifically to buy sourdough bread because it is made authentically using the proper fermentation and hydration process. Lisa was extremely knowledgable and helpful and helped me understand the different breads as well as I was interested in buying a starter and she explained that to me very well too. I was impressed with the store because a lady was trying to get in the door with a walker and someone ran right up to the door and helped her, somebody else was being helped by another employee and the place was clean, neat organized, and a really nice bakery. Besides breads, they had treats that were baked as well as scones that you could bake yourself and a number of cheeses and all kinds of goodies.
We were recommended Dear Grain Bakery from a friend. We were in the mood for some sourdough bread and we couldn’t have found a better place. There was a very nice selection of freshly made breads to choose from. The service was great, very helpful and very kind. The prices seemed reasonable, we got two country style loaves and a pre-cut loaf for 30 bucks. Not too bad considering the quality of this bread was amazing. Very crunchy crisp outer crust with a perfectly soft, airy center. Definitely worthwhile checking out Dear Grain Bakery, if you are in the Hamilton area and looking for some fresh made sourdough bread. We will definitely be back to try some of the coffee and baked goods.
In The heart of Hamilton, is the greatest bakery you will find in Canada! Their sourdough bread is truly to die for. Grab a drip coffee and one of their specialty to go items. They also have a loyalty program to earn points in store. Go visit Lisa and Nicole and the rest of the wonderful staff on vine st!
