I visited Mak’s today (Sept 26 around 5pm) to find a pair of hockey skates for myself. I'm 41, rookie skater, so I wasn’t really sure what I needed. I also had my 6-year-old daughter with me, and from the moment we stepped into the store, it felt welcoming. It was clean, well laid out, and we were greeted warmly by staff right away. Dave was the one who helped us, and right from the start, he made the experience feel comfortable and easy to navigate. I had a lot of questions and very little knowledge, but Dave took the time to walk me through everything in a way that made sense. He didn’t just help me find skates, he helped me understand what to look for, what mattered, and why. What really stood out was how much he genuinely cared. He didn’t try to upsell me or take advantage of the fact that I didn’t know much. Even more meaningful was how he helped my daughter. I had recently purchased used skates and a helmet for her elsewhere, only to find out (thanks to Dave) that they didn’t fit her properly at all. I was honestly so disappointed that I had been sold the wrong sizes. But Dave handled it all with such kindness and patience. He made sure my daughter was fitted properly, talked to her in a fun, kid-friendly way, and now I feel so much better knowing she has the right gear. The store was fairly busy when we were there, but Dave, along with James and another gentleman (whose name I didn’t catch), handled everything so professionally. They made sure every customer was being helped and never rushed. It really felt like they cared about every person who walked in. This kind of service is incredibly rare these days. As someone with zero background in skating or hockey, I walked in feeling unsure but left feeling supported, informed, and really grateful. Thank you, Dave (and team), for going above and beyond. You made what could’ve been an overwhelming experience into something really positive for both me and my daughter.
We went in to purchase new goalie skates and we were helped by Amelia. She was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and made the process seamless. Our overall experience was amazing ! 5 all around!
Mak's Source is not a location that I frequent simply because it is "out of the way" for me however I recently experienced a challenge with my goalie skates that was causing a very painful issue. I attended other more local Source stores in the Halton region that did not solve my concern and the solution was to get custom skates. I called Mak's as I have heard great things about the store, specifically their staff and taking the time to address your need. I spoke with Chase over the phone and directed me to come to the store. Chase was able to determine my issue, punch out an area of my skate that I was told I could not and have my problem rectified in 15 minutes. In addition Chase's colleague, cannot recall his name but described as curly haired kid had me try on different brands of skates to see if there is an alternative if the punching did not solve my concern. Mak's will gain repeat business from me and my family. Cheers and thanks.
Finding the perfect fit for goalie skates made very easy with their staff. Hayley was extremely knowledgeable and dedicated to finding exactly what I needed. I will definitely be back!
If you are a new parent to the hockey world like us, then you have to go see the team at Mak's Source for Sports. We have 2 young boys who have decided that they want to play hockey. The team at Mak's was incredible to work with. Both our boys are goalies and Chase from Mak's was very welcoming and has a wealth of Goalie knowledge. He took the time to go over ever aspect of being a goalie, from the skate sharpening to the helmet adjustments. The store is very clean and the staff are knowledgeable and very professional. They were all amazing with my young boys!! If you are in the market to either get your skates sharpened or need equipment you need go visit Mak's!! PS... if they do not have a specific size you need they will order it for you which they did for us. Well stocked, friendly and outgoing staff- and prices just could not be beat! They were running a bogo 50% deal on premium sticks! My 11 year old is rocking a trigger 9 pro and a Proto r for the price of 1 stick in the USA. Will DEFINITELY be back and recommend to all my friends both sides of the border.
The best SFS in the world. Better than pro hockey life same selection better staff better skate sharpenings and Chase is great he’s just a chill guy honestly he should get a raise (no glaze)
