This is the most useless Nigeria restaurant in Hamilton. I ordered Edikaikong soup from them, but they delivered Spinach soup with 3 tiny meat instead. The soup is so dry, no dry fish, no stock fish, no crayfish etc. how can a Calabar restaurant use spinach as alternative for Ugwu ?. My recommendation: DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM
Food is food, but charging so much for a plate that can be recreated with the fraction of the cost is outrageous for the customers. This business will not remain open much longer if this is the state in which operations proceed.
I’m very disappointed with my recent order from Calabar Kitchen. The egusi soup was undercooked, had a sandy texture, and lacked any flavour. Its appearance was also unappealing although my phone camera made it look better than it actually was, the taste told a different story. This is not a dish I could proudly serve to my non-Nigerian friends as an example of Nigerian cuisine. Unfortunately, both plates ended up in the garbage. I truly hope Calabar Kitchen takes this feedback seriously and works on improving the quality of their food.
The guy seemed honest that the soup was made yesterday when I asked him . The soup itself was highly disappointing , bitter taste , not okay at all … I poured it into the dustbin . Waste of time and effort . My advice is only sell what’s good . I know sometimes food turn out as unexpected , keep that experience away from your customer .
THEY NEVER EVER HAVE THE FOOD! Food is non existent, workers so so rude and for some reason…. THEY NEVER HAVE THE FOOD! Why are they open and how are they are still open
Pretty good food. I've had Nigerian food before, but this was different. The chicken looks like chicken cacciatore, but look out for the spice! It's a good burn. The rice appears to be broken. I've only ever seen this technique used in Vietnamese cooking. If you've had vegetarian fried rice from other Nigerian restaurants, beware...unlike the other ones that I've tried where the vegetarian rice was very savory, but not spicy...this one was both savory and spicy (or maybe the chicken was so spicy the rice tasted spicy too hehehe). Unlike Korean or Indian food, when you get really spicy food in Nigerian food, it's from the Cameroon Pepper, which is actually related to the black pepper from India that's used in western cooking a lot. However, the Cameroon pepper I would say is just as spicy as chili peppers, but you can still taste the food. I haven't had the Suya beef here yet, but the Cameroon pepper is the star of the Suya beef dish. One lick of the beef is enough to shoot flames off your tongue :)
My son picked up some chicken 2 pieces and rice and the women tried to charge him 38 dollars. My son was upset and asked why so expensive and the women did not reply ans changed however did not apologize. The food was not the greatest and definitely not for the price. Not worth the trip. We try to support local restaurant and small business but being taken advantage is not acceptable. He did pay 26 for 2 pieces of drumstick and rice. You can get a organic whole chicken for that price. Sorry I understand you want to make money, But never again will we be coming back.
