The Chef Supply, James St N, Hamilton, is THE place to shop for all your kitchen supplies. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I recently purchased a cast iron Dutch Oven for a wedding gift. When the "bride to be" wanted to exchange it for other merchandise, there was no hassle. They were very helpful and patient. The selection of merchandise including knives is awesome. Great store! I had a very positive experience with Chris' Store Fixtures, particularly when purchasing a meat chopper. Even though I didn't purchase items for commercial use, I felt that they still took the time to ensure that I was satisfied. Definitly will return!
The store was tidy enough, and has a decent layout, but it could be difficult finding a specific item. Personally I didn’t leave with everything I was looking for. There was quite a bit of staff, but they seemed more focused on business customers versus public. I would actually go with 3.5 stars, but that not an option due to the customer service experience. I fully understand the business customer are the bread makers (more money), but it doesn't mean that your public customers should feel less valued. I was looking for a set of knives (Filament Block, Chef Knife, Bread Knife, Santoku Knife, Utility Knife, Pairing Knife) the sales person that finally spoke with me explained they just have knifes sold individual, but they be happy to go over them with me. I was excited, but then he took off to help someone else (looked like a business customer) and had another staff ring in what I got already. Sure I was only look to spend around $250 on knifes it wasn’t going to be a big sale, but fact he took off after offering to help was outstanding in a bad way. Sorry for how long this is. I might go back. Hopefully it be much better the next time. If your wondering I order some knifes online instead (would rather buy locally, but was denied the chance).
Originally they were on King Street, and now on James Street North. I’ve been going to this store for over 20 years and as a family business they always try hard to satisfy their customers. If your looking for something you can’t find on the internet they will try to find it for you. They understand the food service industry but you can tell they welcome the public as well. They have stuff that other places just don’t have. Decent prices.
