The Staircase is tucked away on Dundurn Street in Hamilton and it’s easy to miss. From the outside, it looks like a big old house, a bit historic and a bit random. You’d never guess that inside, it’s buzzing with creativity and community energy. What I really appreciate is how much this place gives back. They’re uplifting the neighbourhood, offering a true third space for people to connect, create and belong. The Staircase shines a light on Hamilton’s local arts, talent, and culture, and honestly, it’s exactly what this part of the city needs. There’s a lot happening under one roof: a theatre, a café, and an event space. Basically a full-on community hub. Their regular programming includes comedy nights, coding camps, film screenings, and more. You can check out the full calendar on their website. When we stopped by, there was a coding camp going on, and it was packed. We grabbed two lime sodas and a tea (all for about ten bucks which is rare in the GTA). The café even sells some merch. Once you step inside, there’s this gorgeous spiral staircase on the right, which is where it gets its name. Parking is easy too, with a lot right behind the building. Overall, I’m just really glad a place like this exists as a creative anchor in a neighbourhood that needs and deserves it.

I went there as part of a video shoot, years ago, and it was artistic and eclectic, as suits a former electrical building. Had planned to hang out and sketch, but got called away as I arrived. Will make another expedition soon!

Hosted a kids’ birthday party (private moving screening) and it was great. Easy communication beforehand and logistics once we were there. Strongly recommend!

Mixed review. The performance of TRUE WEST was simply amazing. So believable that if felt like you at the home in the kitchen with the two brothers battling it out. The reason for 2 stars is that some of the other audience members were abusive to me and my mother at the end of the play in the lounge area saying ' DRUGGIE' to me infront of my family. I don't even know these people. They don't know me either. We are from a far distant city. Pretty disgusting. I won't be back for that reason.

We picked the Staircase for our high school reunion and are so glad we did! Everyone kept commenting on how terrific the space was. The staff were so kind through the whole event, and the team even surprised us by making a special cocktail for our celebration (unasked!). I would be very happy to make this a spot I regularly use for event hosting... thank you for such a great evening!

This is an amazing and supportive community where you can build your improv skills and make lasting connections. It's a safe space and judgment free zone and there is always room for YOU! A definite must to check out on a Monday or Wednesday

Great small theatre with quality productions! Wonderful in-house cafe/bar with homemade desserts and apps. Local wines and craft beer also available. Outstanding artists!

An amazing, groovy venue for all sorts of events. It's a sentimental venue for my family. My daughter was married here, her husband had his 30th birthday party here and I just recently hosted their baby shower at the Staircase. Everyone absolutely loved it. It has a great feel to it. The staff are incredibly creative and helpful and go over and beyond the call of duty to help make your event a success!

Visited for Fringe. They have a good selection of craft beer and cider. Overall, the cafe area had a laid back vibe and the theatre areas were clean and in decent condition.

Home away from home! THE most loving, welcoming community I've ever had the honour to be a part of.
